Paul on his goals as a painter
I think of myself as a painter trying to capture the light and drama of
the landscape. I love painting outdoors, on location. My goal is to
capture the evanescent beauty of the landscape in paintings with
bold, simple compositions. Boldness comes from painting with a large
brush, melding strong value contrasts and dominant color themes.

Recently I have been painting whimsical, humorous pictures. I began
painting this way as a result of looking for a new approach beyond the
realistic landscapes that I usually paint. For examples, look at the first
row of pictures on my watercolor page.
